Why This Church?
Just down the road are a number of good churches. They have good friends, good pastors, and good programs. We would highly recommend any one of them. However, there are a few things that make us different than the churches down the road.
- Leadership
We affirm God’s gifting to both men and women to lead us as elders, deacons, and pastors. Other church traditions take a few passages exclude women from leadership. We believe the whole of Scripture supports partnership of the genders in ministry rather than excluding it. more…
- Culture
We believe Christ calls us to engage culture rather than withdraw from the world. We fight the ‘bunker-mentality’ of Christianity…we against the world. Jesus told parable after parable about the kingdom of God being like leaven, salt, light in the world. Some people call it a ‘missional’ understanding of church. We want to make a difference now for the better. more…
- Accountability
No one person can have all God’s wisdom for the church’s leadership. We are led by a group of elders, not a head pastor or bishop. Christ alone is head of the Church. Discerning God’s will is done together. The alternative can lead unchecked toward excess or ‘cult of personality.’ There are too many stories of leadership gone wrong without the proper accountability in place.
Not only is our local church leadership accountable, we are part of a larger network of churches to hold our leadership accountable. We exist in a ‘connectional’ system. We are connected to other churches and other elders, where more heads and hearts are better than one.
